Asante Kotoko have reached an agreement with midfielder Prince Badu to terminate his contract by mutual consent, bringing his brief spell with the Porcupine Warriors to an end as the club intensifies preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 26-year-old joined the Kumasi giants from Nations FC in January on a deal that was originally expected to keep him at the club until 2028. However, his stay has lasted only six months, with the technical hierarchy deciding that he no longer forms part of head coach Eric Tinkler’s plans.
Badu’s departure represents another significant move in Kotoko’s efforts to reshape a squad that endured an underwhelming campaign last season. The club has embarked on a wide-ranging restructuring exercise, with several players expected to leave as the technical team builds a group better suited to its plans.
Although Badu arrived with the expectation of bringing greater physical presence, discipline and control to Kotoko’s midfield, he was unable to establish himself as a long-term fixture in the side.
His exit had been widely anticipated amid reports that Kotoko were preparing to trim their squad, and the midfielder is now free to negotiate with other clubs as he searches for the next chapter of his career.
Kotoko, meanwhile, have been active on the recruitment front as they attempt to address weaknesses across the squad. Among their latest additions is Ivorian central defender Koffi Marius Ange Bini, who is expected to bolster the team’s defensive options.
Badu becomes one of the first casualties of the club’s ongoing overhaul, with further departures possible as Tinkler and his technical team continue to shape their squad ahead of the new season.
