Alexander Djiku has challenged Ghana to draw a line under its recent disappointments and channel all its energy into rebuilding a Black Stars side capable of restoring the nation’s standing on the continental and global stage.

The experienced defender acknowledged the pain of watching one of Africa’s most successful football nations endure a difficult spell, insisting the team must now focus on writing a new chapter rather than dwelling on setbacks.

Once synonymous with deep runs at major tournaments, Ghana has seen its fortunes decline in recent years, suffering successive early exits that have fallen well below the lofty expectations attached to the four-time African champions.

Having featured in the Black Stars’ recent campaigns, Djiku admitted those failures have been particularly frustrating because they contrast sharply with the legacy built by previous generations.

“You know, I feel very good because also, you know, the Black Stars have four stars; we won a lot of African Cups, so it’s a strong country. When I saw Black Stars in the past, they all the time go final, semi-final. So I was a little bit angry that we could not get past the group stage,” Djiku said.

While the disappointment still lingers, the centre-back believes there is little value in revisiting old wounds. Instead, he wants the squad to embrace the future, build a stronger identity and direct its attention toward the next major challenge on the international calendar.

“I was there in the last two African Cups, but now it’s far. We have to move forward and see what we can do in the next World Cup,” he added.

Djiku believes Ghana’s revival will depend on collective commitment, resilience, and a winning mentality, with senior figures and emerging talents working together to return the Black Stars to the level that once made them one of Africa’s most feared national teams.
