Ghana international Abdul Mumin is attracting widespread interest from across Europe and North America after becoming a free agent, with clubs in Spain, England, France and Major League Soccer all exploring a move for the experienced centre-back, according to multiple sources in Europe and Ghana.
The 28-year-old is currently evaluating multiple proposals following his departure from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano, where contract renewal talks ultimately broke down over financial terms. The Spanish outfit tabled an extension on reduced wages, but the Black Stars defender opted against accepting the offer, bringing his three-year spell at the club to a close.
Despite spending much of last season on the sidelines, Mumin remains a highly sought-after defender after successfully completing his comeback from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury.
His recovery followed a difficult period that began in March 2025, when he sustained the knee injury that kept him out of competitive football for well over a year. After more than 400 days of rehabilitation, he finally returned in April 2026, making a substitute appearance against Espanyol before featuring in two more La Liga matches to close out the campaign.
His return proved enough to convince Ghana’s technical team to include him in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reaffirming the faith they continue to have in his quality despite his lengthy absence.
Now available without a transfer fee, Mumin has become one of the more appealing defensive options on the market. Spanish clubs Osasuna and Girona are among the sides pushing to secure his signature, while teams in the English Premier League and French Ligue 1 are also keeping close tabs on his situation.
The former Vitória Guimarães defender is expected to make a decision after carefully assessing which project offers the strongest platform to relaunch his career. Regular playing time, long-term ambition and a stable environment are understood to be central to his deliberations as he seeks to re-establish himself at the highest level.
Mumin arrived at Rayo Vallecano from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most dependable defenders. Before his injury setback, he had cemented his place in the starting XI with a series of commanding displays that showcased his physicality, composure and consistency at the heart of defence.
On the international stage, the centre-back has earned five senior caps for Ghana and remains firmly in contention for a bigger role with the Black Stars as he embarks on the next phase of his club career.
