Eric Ayiah, once the shining captain of Ghana’s Black Starlets, is on the move again, this time joining Portuguese outfit Varzim Sport Club on loan for the entire 2025/26 campaign.
The deal sees the 25-year-old striker arrive from FC Felgueiras, a side battling in Portugal’s second division, with hopes of reviving his momentum in Liga 3.
Varzim unveiled their new addition through an official announcement on social media, confirming: “Eric Ayiah is loaned out from FC Felgueiras until 2026.”

The striker leaves Felgueiras after a steady season, where he chipped in with five goals and three assists across 29 appearances. While his relentless energy and ability to operate across the forward line made him a fan favourite, stiffer competition in the squad meant game time wasn’t guaranteed, prompting both parties to greenlight the temporary switch.
Ayiah’s career has been a fascinating journey. Once touted as the next big export when he emerged from AS Monaco’s youth ranks, the former Ghana U17 star has since been grinding through Portugal’s lower divisions, gradually reshaping his game and reputation. Despite his impressive international pedigree at youth level,10 caps with the Black Starlets, he continues to wait patiently for a senior Black Stars debut.

For Varzim, the deal is a statement of intent. With promotion ambitions high, the club sees Ayiah as a forward who can add depth, work rate, and an edge in attack. For the player, the mission is clear: rediscover the sharp form that once made him one of Ghana’s brightest teenage prospects and prove himself indispensable over the next nine months.
