The Ghana Football Association has moved to clarify why Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo was not named in Otto Addo’s squad for the September World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
Sibo, 27, has caught the eye in Spain’s La Liga this season, starting in Oviedo’s opening fixtures against Villarreal and Real Madrid. His performances had fuelled speculation about a maiden national call-up, but his name was missing when the 24-man list was unveiled on Tuesday. The squad, however, did include returns for Joseph Paintsil and Ibrahim Osman.

According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the omission has nothing to do with Sibo’s form, but rather the technical team’s decision to keep faith with the players who delivered in previous matches.
“Kwasi Sibo will get his chance soon. The technical team has been monitoring him and is impressed with his work rate. Although they opted to maintain the core team following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar, Sibo is on their radar and will likely get an opportunity soon,” Asante Twum explained in a Facebook post.
The midfielder is still waiting for his debut in national colors, having never featured for Ghana at any level.
Black Stars players are set to report to camp on September 1, ahead of the double-header that could secure Ghana a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
