Fenerbahce have stepped up their pursuit of Ghana defender Kojo Peprah Oppong with the Turkish giants tabling a formal bid worth more than €10 million for the OGC Nice centre-back, according to Footy-Africa.

The Istanbul-based club are moving decisively as the transfer window approaches its conclusion, with their qualification for the Champions League group stage providing fresh financial muscle for an ambitious late push in the market.

Fenerbahce booked their place in the league phase on Wednesday after overturning Lyon in a tense playoff tie, progressing 2-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in the first leg and a 2-1 victory in the return fixture. Their European breakthrough has now intensified efforts to reinforce a defence that could benefit from the addition of a young, battle-tested centre-back.

Oppong fits that profile after a breakthrough campaign in France in which he accumulated 43 appearances across all competitions for Nice and found the net once. The 22-year-old has emerged as a dependable option at the heart of the Ligue 1 side’s defence, making his availability particularly attractive to clubs searching for quality and long-term value.

Yet uncertainty surrounding the Ghanaian’s immediate future has only increased in recent days.

Oppong is currently recovering from an injury and was left out of Nice’s 20-man squad for last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Lorient. His absence has inevitably added fuel to speculation that the French club could be preparing to part ways with the defender before the transfer deadline.

Fenerbahce, however, may have competition from within Turkey.

Trabzonspor have also identified Oppong as a priority target and are pushing for his signature, raising the prospect of a direct contest between two of Turkey’s leading clubs. Should both sides formalise their interest, Nice could find themselves in an advantageous position as negotiations accelerate.

The French club are understood to be considering offers for several members of their first-team squad as they seek to manage their finances before the market closes. A deal exceeding €10 million for Oppong would therefore provide Nice with a substantial injection of funds while potentially allowing the defender to embark on a new chapter in Turkey.

Oppong’s growing reputation has also been enhanced by his involvement with Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The centre-back has earned six senior caps for the Black Stars since making his international debut.

With the deadline approaching, Fenerbahce’s opening move could be the beginning rather than the end of the story, particularly with Trabzonspor waiting in the wings.
