Richard Boadu has come full circle at Asante Kotoko, with the Ghanaian midfielder sealing an emotional return to the Kumasi giants after more than a year on the sidelines without a club.
The 28-year-old has rejoined the Ghana Premier League heavyweights on a deal that runs until 30 June 2028, completing his return on 25 August 2026. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Boadu is no stranger to the red and white of Kotoko. His first spell at the club lasted from September 2021 until August 2023, a period in which he helped the Porcupine Warriors capture the Ghana Premier League title during the 2021-22 campaign.
His departure in August 2023 took him beyond Ghana’s borders, with the central midfielder moving to Egyptian giants Al-Ahly. He subsequently switched to Tunisia, joining Club Africain on a free transfer in January 2025.
The midfielder later spent part of the 2024-25 campaign in Libya, turning out for Al-Tahaddy on loan before returning to Club Africain at the conclusion of the season in June.
Boadu’s association with the Tunisian club ended in July 2025, after which he remained unattached. More than a year later, Kotoko have provided the platform for his return to competitive football, bringing back a player who already understands the demands and expectations that come with representing the club.
His career numbers underline his experience at the highest level of African football. Boadu has accumulated 103 appearances in the Ghana Premier League, contributing three goals and one assist. He has also featured eight times in the CAF Champions League, in addition to seven appearances in qualifying play-offs.
A Kumasi native, Boadu began his professional journey with Medeama before earning his move to Asante Kotoko in 2021. His career has since taken him through Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya, giving him experience across several of Africa’s competitive domestic leagues.
His Libyan adventure with Al-Tahaddy yielded six league appearances, with the midfielder finding the net once and supplying one assist.
Now back on familiar ground, Boadu begins another chapter in his career at Asante Kotoko, with his new contract securing his services at the club until the summer of 2028.
