Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew has backed Mohammed Kudus to operate at the highest level of European football, insisting the Tottenham Hotspur forward possesses the attributes required to thrive at any of the continent’s elite clubs.
Kudus, 25, established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking players during his two-season spell at West Ham United, following his move from Dutch giants Ajax. His performances in England eventually earned him a transfer across London to Tottenham, although his time with Spurs has so far been disrupted by a series of fitness setbacks.
The latest injury setback proved particularly costly, forcing the Ghana international to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Kudus has since been focused on his rehabilitation as he works towards regaining full fitness and returning to competitive action.
Ayew, who shared the pitch with Kudus for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, remains convinced that the younger attacker has the ability to reach the very top of the game.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, Ayew highlighted Kudus’ exceptional qualities and suggested that his ceiling remains extremely high.
“He’s got everything to be at the top,” Ayew said.
The former Marseille and Swansea City forward believes Kudus has the technical ability, physical attributes and mentality required to compete for some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, including several Premier League giants.
“In my opinion, he is good enough to be in clubs like Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc,” he added.
However, Ayew believes Kudus’ immediate priority should not be proving his ability on the pitch but ensuring he makes a complete recovery from his latest injury.
The veteran Ghanaian urged the Tottenham attacker to resist the temptation to rush his comeback, stressing that a carefully managed rehabilitation process will be crucial to allowing him to regain his best form.
Kudus is now edging closer to a return to full fitness, with his eventual comeback expected to provide Tottenham and Ghana with a significant attacking boost.
For Ayew, the message is clear: Kudus already possesses the qualities required to compete among Europe’s elite, and if he can overcome his recent fitness problems, the Ghana star still has the opportunity to fulfil that enormous potential.
