Ghana international goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has stressed the importance of rebuilding the confidence of Ghanaians as the Black Stars continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking before Ghana’s final warm-up match against Wales, the shot-stopper admitted the team understands the doubts surrounding the current squad but insisted the players are fully committed to changing public perception through strong performances.
“We have now started preparations for the World Cup, so we have to make everything possible to succeed so that the fans can have enough trust in us,” Asare said.
The goalkeeper appealed to supporters to remain patient and continue believing in the national team despite potential setbacks along the way:
“We may lose, but we need to have enough confidence going forward. That’s what will help prove to Ghanaians that the best set of players are here and make them happy.”

Asare also opened up about the intense battle for places in camp, especially among the goalkeepers, but maintained that togetherness within the squad remains the foundation of their ambitions:
“We need to maintain unity in the team so that we can reach our goal as a strong team. We believe in each other. I also believe in myself.”
With Ghana’s provisional preparations entering a crucial phase, attention now turns to the announcement of the final 26-man squad on June 1 ahead of the country’s opening World Cup fixture against Panama on June 17.
For Asare and his teammates, the mission is straightforward: deliver performances that can reconnect the Black Stars with the trust and support of the Ghanaian people.
