Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Jordan Opoku has urged Ghanaians to remain patient with the Black Stars project, insisting the national team’s attention should be fixed on long-term progress rather than immediate success at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with Bryt FM in Koforidua, Opoku stressed that the arrival of new head coach Carlos Queiroz signals the beginning of a rebuilding phase that will require time, stability, and trust.
“The focus should be on building for the future and creating a solid team,” Opoku said. “We have a new coach who still needs time to implement his philosophy, style of play, and preferred players.”
Ghana head into the tournament placed in a difficult Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with expectations already mounting ahead of the global showpiece.

However, Opoku believes supporters must temper their demands and allow the technical team enough room to shape a competitive side capable of sustained success beyond the tournament itself.
“We must not expect too much from the team at this stage. The focus should be on building for the future,” he added.
The Black Stars will be participating in their fifth FIFA World Cup, having previously enjoyed their finest campaign in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa. While hopes remain high for another memorable run, Opoku maintains that laying a strong foundation for the future should take precedence over chasing short-term achievements.
