Ghanaian defender Derrick Kohn has expressed his excitement after completing a move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old left-back joins Union on a four-year contract from Turkish champions Galatasaray, marking a return to the German topflight where he impressed on loan at Werder Bremen last season, making 30 appearances, 27 of them in the Bundesliga.

“Union Berlin is the perfect fit for me. They are a club with identity, ambition and strong team spirit,” Kohn told the club media, after his unveiling. “I want to bring my qualities on the left flank into play, and I’m convinced they match the team’s philosophy. Now I’m looking forward to the squad, the fans and the whole environment in Berlin.”
Kohn’s career began at Hamburger SV before a spell with Bayern Munich’s youth setup. After limited opportunities, he moved to the Netherlands with Willem II, later returning to Germany to feature for Hannover 96. His breakthrough came in Turkey, where he helped Galatasaray win the Super Lig.
Union’s Director of Football, Horst Heldt, welcomed the signing: “Derrick adds pace, strength and valuable Bundesliga experience. He suits us in terms of character, and his versatility and attacking instinct give us more options down the left.”
