Pep Guardiola has lauded the early impact of Antoine Semenyo at Manchester City, stressing that the Ghanaian forward’s value to the team goes far beyond his goal tally.

The City manager spoke glowingly about Semenyo during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle United, pointing to the attacker’s versatility and energy since completing a January switch from AFC Bournemouth.

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the 26-year-old has quickly become an influential presence in Guardiola’s attacking setup, contributing five goals and two assists in just nine appearances across all competitions.

Antoine Semenyo clinches Premier League Player of the Week

Despite the impressive numbers, Guardiola insisted Semenyo’s contribution cannot be measured purely by statistics.

“It’s not just scoring a lot of goals. The strikers and the players who play up front are so important. Not just that,” Guardiola said.

“He makes a special rhythm, his versatility to play many positions up front and in the three positions. He has it in his DNA. His impact has been really good.”

The Spanish tactician also credited City’s dressing-room culture for helping new players settle rapidly after arriving at the club.

“The guys who came adapt quick because the guys for a long time here embrace them so quick,” he added.

City will look to maintain their momentum when they host Newcastle this weekend. A victory could see Guardiola’s side close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to just two points, with a game still in hand.

Pep Guardiola tips Semenyo as elite addition after Fulham win

With the title race heating up ahead of Arsenal’s North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Semenyo’s early influence at City is already proving to be a significant boost, not only through goals, but through the dynamism and flexibility he adds to Guardiola’s attacking options.
