Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has openly criticised the decision to extend the presidential term limit in an interview on air at Lawson FM.

At the 31st Ordinary Congress held in Pampram, the GFA approved an amendment to its statutes, increasing the presidential term limit from two to three. The previous rule, introduced in 2019, capped the tenure at two four-year terms.

The motion passed with overwhelming support of 114 out of 123 delegates voted in favor, six opposed, and three abstained.

Reacting on the matter, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe questioned the motive behind the change.

“Why do people want to stay in power for a longer period?” he asked pointedly. “The reason for the extension is simple, just to steal. Personally, I am against it and I will always oppose this extension.”

Kurt Okraku, who became GFA president in 2019, is currently serving his second term, which is due to end in 2027. He also holds the position of CAF second vice president.
