Hearts of Oak have suffered a significant setback, with first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare ruled out for roughly two weeks after picking up an injury.

The experienced shot-stopper has already sat out the club’s previous three fixtures and is almost certain to miss Sunday’s Ghana Premier League clash against Nations FC. His absence comes at a particularly turbulent moment for the Phobians, who have struggled for consistency, winning only one of their last four league outings, and crashing out of the FA Cup at the round-of-32 stage to third-tier side True Life FC.

Asare had been away on international duty earlier this month and did not feature against Swedru All Blacks. But upon rejoining the squad, he was unable to reclaim his spot due to the knock he picked up, forcing him to miss additional games against Young Apostles, Vision FC and Karela United.

In his absence, Solomon Agbasi has been entrusted with the gloves and is expected to continue as the temporary No.1 until Asare completes his recovery. The Hearts technical team will be hoping the veteran keeper returns on schedule to help steady a campaign that has started to wobble.

Despite the interruption to his season, Asare remains a key pillar in the side’s defensive structure, having kept five clean sheets in eight league appearances so far.
