Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to intensify his preparations as the nation gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Otto Addo, 50, successfully guided Ghana to the tournament after topping Group I with 25 points, securing qualification with a game to spare. However, despite this achievement, a section of fans remains unconvinced by his methods, with some even calling for a change in leadership.

In an interview with UTV, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency praised the team’s progress but cautioned that qualification alone should not breed complacency.

“I am happy we have qualified, but that does not mean everything was cool. I expect the coach [Otto Addo] to do a lot more,” Adams remarked.

The minister stressed that the World Cup presents an entirely new level of competition, urging Addo to fine-tune his strategies to match the global stage.

“The qualifiers are entirely different, and sometimes you get a superior advantage over other countries and opponents, but at the World Cup, you can come up against the Asians, Europeans, the South Americans, North Americans, and what have you and these countries have a different style of play, so your reading of the game must be different,” he explained.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will discover their World Cup group-stage opponents when the official draw is held on December 5.

With high expectations from both government and fans, all eyes will be on Otto Addo to refine his tactics and ensure the Black Stars put up a performance worthy of their rich football heritage.
