Wayne Rooney believes Mohammed Kudus will feel an enormous sense of relief after finally opening his goal-scoring account for Tottenham Hotspur in their narrow win over Leeds United on Saturday.

The Ghanaian midfielder, who joined Spurs in the summer, struck the decisive goal to hand Thomas Frank’s men another valuable three points and continue their impressive start to the Premier League campaign.

Mohammed Kudus at Tottenham: career, salary, market value and more

While Kudus has already impressed with his creativity and work rate, recording four assists so far, the most in the league, Rooney says finding the back of the net will do wonders for his confidence and allow him to play with even more freedom.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the Manchester United and England legend explained that Kudus’ breakthrough moment could mark the beginning of a new chapter in his Tottenham career.

“I think he has been a breath of fresh air. I think if you look at the stats from the game, he is first in everything. Duels won, successful dribbles, shots, touches in opposition box. He has a real impact for Tottenham this season. He has got four assists this season, joint first in the Premier League, and he has by far had the most successful dribbles in the league. All that was missing was the goal, and I think that goal today will push him to the next level, and he has been a real top turner,” Rooney said.

Kudus vows to deliver more goals after netting maiden Tottenham goal

The £55 million signing’s performances have quickly made him a vital figure in Tottenham’s resurgence after last season’s struggles, and Rooney believes the goal will now free him from the pressure of expectation.

Kudus has since departed England for Morocco, where he will join the Ghana national team ahead of their decisive 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic on October 8.
