Coventry City produced a five-star masterclass at Hillsborough, dismantling a helpless Sheffield Wednesday 5–0 to storm to the top of the Championship. The afternoon belonged to one man, Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose electric brace set the Sky Blues on their way to a statement victory.

The Ghanaian forward needed barely three minutes to make his presence felt, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner to smash home from close range and silence the home crowd. His hunger and energy epitomised Coventry’s intent, and before the half-hour mark he had doubled the advantage, robbing Dominic Iorfa with sheer determination before curling a ruthless finish into the far corner.

Mark Robins’ side were relentless. Haji Wright made it three just before the break, turning in a low cross to cap a scintillating first half in which Wednesday barely escaped their own half.

The onslaught continued after the interval. Ellis Simms found the net with a cool finish midway through the second period, and Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto added a fifth late on to complete a demolition that sent Coventry’s travelling fans into delirium.

Thomas-Asante, who now has five goals and three assists in just nine league games, came close to a hat-trick early in the second half, his header drawing a spectacular stop from Ethan Horvath. But his influence was already decisive, every attack seemed to orbit around his tireless movement and sharp instincts.

Brandon Thomas-Asante admits injury struggles from first Coventry campaign

For a player once seen as a hard-working striker still polishing his edges, the 26-year-old now looks every inch the finished article, powerful, intelligent, and brimming with confidence. Coventry’s unbeaten run stretches to nine, and with Thomas-Asante leading the charge, their promotion ambitions are beginning to feel like more than just a dream.
