Head coach Karim Zito has expressed his burning ambition to steer Asante Kotoko to success in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, declaring that lifting the trophy would be a dream come true.
The Kumasi-based giants earned the right to represent Ghana in the continental competition after edging Golden Kick FC 2-1 to clinch the FA Cup title last season. Their campaign begins with a tricky preliminary clash against Nigerian outfit Kwara United, with the first leg slated for September 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium and the return fixture a week later.
Zito, who once celebrated Confederation Cup triumph as a player, says repeating that feat in the dugout would be the highlight of his managerial career.
βGoing into Africa is not easy, so I am pleading with the fans to stay united and support the team,β he told Asempa FM.
βI played and won Africa, so I will be happy to win this tournament, but it must start with the fans coming together. The target is to get into the money zone, but we must first win the game against Kwara United.β
Kotokoβs path will not get any easier. Should they overcome Kwara United, the Porcupine Warriors will square off with Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club in the next qualifying stage.
For Zito, however, the bigger picture remains unchanged, guiding the club back to continental prominence and etching his name in Kotokoβs storied history.
