Ghanaian midfielder Maxwell Woledzi delivered an assured and influential display on his CONCACAF Champions Cup debut as Nashville SC battled to a 0-0 stalemate with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami CF in the first leg of their round of 16 clash.

The 24-year-old, who recently completed a move to the MLS outfit from Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK, lasted the entire match and continued his strong start to life in the United States. The encounter marked his third straight start since joining the club.

Facing an Inter Miami lineup that included Argentine international Rodrigo De Paul, Woledzi stood out with a composed and disciplined performance in the middle of the park.

He repeatedly disrupted Miami’s rhythm with timely interceptions, important recoveries, and strong challenges, while also contributing several blocks and clearances to help Nashville maintain their clean sheet.

One particular sequence drew widespread attention online. Under pressure from De Paul, Woledzi showed remarkable composure and technique to glide past the midfielder, a moment of skill that quickly circulated across social media and highlighted the Ghanaian’s confidence on such a big stage.

Since arriving at Nashville SC, Woledzi has settled in quickly, and his impressive form could not have come at a better time for Ghana. Injuries have left the Ghana national football team short of defensive options ahead of upcoming World Cup preparation friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team.

The centre-back has long expressed his desire to represent his country at senior level, and displays like this will only strengthen his case for a first call-up.

Attention now turns to the decisive second leg, scheduled for March 18 in Fort Lauderdale. Another standout performance against Inter Miami could further boost Woledzi’s growing reputation and potentially earn him a spot in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures.
