Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has publicly endorsed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, voicing firm confidence in the technical team’s ability to make a meaningful impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo’s tenure has not been without turbulence. Ghana’s surprising failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations brought intense scrutiny, ending a long-standing run of consistent appearances at the continental showpiece.
However, the coach responded by steering the Ghana national football team through a strong World Cup qualifying campaign, finishing top of their group without tasting defeat.
Despite that resurgence, sections of the fanbase have continued to question whether a leadership change is needed ahead of the global tournament. Lamptey, however, has dismissed those concerns, throwing his weight fully behind the current setup.
“I have absolute trust in Otto Addo and his technical team to deliver for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, he told GHOne TV.
Ghana face a stern challenge in Group L, where they will come up against Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign begins on June 17 against Panama, followed by a high-profile clash with England on June 23, before concluding the group phase against Croatia on June 27.
In preparation for the tournament, the Black Stars are currently camped in Vienna, where they are fine-tuning strategies through a series of international friendlies, including fixtures against Austria and Germany.
With backing from respected former players like Lamptey, the focus now shifts to whether Addo and his squad can convert that belief into a compelling showing on football’s grandest stage.
