Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has tipped Abdul Fatawu Issahaku for an instant return to Premier League football after the Ghanaian and Leicester City winger produced a moment of brilliance to down his side.
Issahaku’s thunderous 30-yard effort sealed Leicester City’s 1-0 win on Saturday at The Valley, leaving Jones convinced the 21-year-old is destined for the highest level.
“He’ll end up in the Premier League in a week’s time. That was the only difference. It took a one-in-a-million strike to win the game for them,” Jones said in his post-match remarks to the press.
The young winger has long been regarded as one of Leicester’s brightest prospects. His dazzling form during the Foxes’ 2023/24 promotion charge underlined his ability to change games, but a serious injury early in the following campaign curtailed his Premier League breakthrough.
Leicester struggled badly in his absence and eventually slipped back into the Championship. Now, as they mount yet another push for promotion, they may also find themselves battling to keep hold of their talisman.
Jones’ glowing endorsement has only fuelled speculation that Premier League sides could swoop for Issahaku before the transfer window shuts, a move that would restore him to the stage many feel he belongs on.
