Swedish giants AIK are increasingly encouraged by the performances of Ghanaian teenager Mark Kagawa Mensah, who has caught the club’s attention during a recent trial period.

The highly-rated youngster, currently developing at Attram de Visser Soccer Academy, has been training with the Stockholm-based side and has already left a strong early impression on the technical staff.

Though still just 16, Mensah’s composure and attacking instincts in midfield have stood out during his evaluation sessions with both the youth setup and senior environment.

Club officials have indicated that while no immediate deal is expected, there is growing optimism about a future move. Due to international transfer regulations, the talented midfielder is expected to formally link up with the club once he turns 18, provided his development continues on its current trajectory.

AIK’s recruitment manager, Miikka Takkula, shared insight into how the player came onto their radar and what he has shown so far.

He told Fotbollskanalen: “Herish introduced the player (Mark Kagawa Mensah) to me and after that we decided to invite him. He is a midfielder who is very offensive in his mindset and who is technical.”

Takkula went on to emphasize both the player’s promise and the need for patience in his development.

“He is definitely a talented player. He fits our style of play. It will be important to see how he manages to perform in the A-team environment. But he’s definitely a player we’ll keep an eye on. We’ll see how it goes.”

“He has made a good impression so far. He is a great character, and he is technically skilled. Overall, it has looked positive, but he is still an U-17 player. So it’s more about evaluating how much he can develop. What does the potential look like?”

Mensah’s progress is also set to be tested on the international stage, with the youngster expected to feature for Ghana at the upcoming 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The tournament, scheduled from May 13 to June 2, will see Ghana face a challenging group that includes Senegal, South Africa, and Algeria.

As interest continues to build, the coming months could prove decisive in shaping the next chapter of Mensah’s burgeoning career.
