Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has shared his thoughts after making his UEFA Champions League debut, describing the experience as a difficult one following Manchester City’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.
The 25-year-old forward, who completed a January switch from AFC Bournemouth to City, started at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. However, the evening proved to be a stern initiation into Europe’s most prestigious club competition, as the Spanish heavyweights capitalised on their chances.
Speaking to Hayters TV after the match, Semenyo pointed to key moments in midfield where Madrid’s quality ultimately made the difference.
“They had their moments; they kept the ball really well and exploited the bit of space that we had in the middle of the park,” he said.
“So it’s obviously a bit tough, but again, that happens. It’s a tough team, and if you give them a chance, they will take it.”

While the result was disappointing, the Ghanaian attacker also reflected on the remarkable path that led him to the Champions League stage, a journey that began in non-league football before rising through the ranks to the highest level of the European game.
City must now attempt a dramatic comeback when the teams meet again in the return leg at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, March 17, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing a strong performance to keep their continental hopes alive.
