The government of Ghana has outlined a substantial financial commitment to support the national team, the Ghana national football team, ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, revealed that a proposed budget of GHS 146,268,659.80 has been earmarked to fund the team’s participation at the global tournament scheduled for this summer.

The allocation, which translates to just under $14 million, is intended to cater for a wide range of operational needs tied to the team’s campaign. These include training camps, travel and accommodation logistics, bonuses for players, remuneration for the technical staff, and other tournament-related obligations.

Officials from the Ministry explained that the financial plan assumes a full tournament journey, meaning the budget is structured around the possibility of the Black Stars progressing through every stage of the competition.

Further details regarding how the funds will be distributed, as well as the sources of financing, are expected to be disclosed in the coming months as preparations gather momentum.

Before the tournament begins, the Black Stars will use the March international window to sharpen their form with friendly matches against Germany national football team and Austria national football team.

Another preparatory fixture has also been scheduled against Mexico national football team in May.

At the World Cup itself, Ghana will compete in Group L, beginning their campaign against Panama national football team on June 17.

They will then take on England national football team on June 23, before wrapping up their group-stage matches against the Croatia national football team on June 27.

The tournament will be jointly staged across United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Having endured back-to-back group-stage eliminations in recent major tournaments, the Black Stars will be determined to deliver a more convincing performance when they step onto football’s biggest stage later this year.
