Former Hamza Mohammed has showered praise on emerging Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, tipping the young attacker to develop into one of the country’s biggest football stars and potentially shine at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an interview with 3Sports, the former Ghana national football team midfielder expressed deep admiration for Issahaku’s rapid rise and the impact he is already making at just 20 years old.

“He is a great talent,” Hamza said simply. “We are just privileged to have such a talent on our team.”

Fatawu extends stellar form at Leicester, despite defeat

Issahaku has been one of the standout performers for Leicester City F.C. this season, producing impressive numbers with eight goals and seven assists. Beyond his club form, the winger is increasingly seen as a player capable of carrying the expectations of a nation eager to witness the rise of its next global football figure.

“A young guy who is doing very well for himself and the country. We just pray for injury-free for him. I believe he should be the one that we should look for in the World Cup that we are going,” he noted.

Hamza believes players like Issahaku represent the next era for Ghana’s national team, stressing that the country’s long-term success will depend on the development and protection of this new generation:

“Fatawu and the likes are the future of the Black Stars. So just hope and pray for an injury-free him.”

The former midfielder went a step further by drawing a comparison with one of Ghana’s greatest ever players, highlighting the immense potential many believe Issahaku possesses:

“And who knows? Maybe he will be one of the Abedi Peles that we’ve never seen since the legend left the game.”

With his explosive pace, fearless dribbling and relentless attacking drive, Issahaku has been a constant menace to defenders in England’s second tier this season. For Hamza, that fearless style could make him a vital weapon for Ghana when the Black Stars step onto football’s grandest stage in 2026.

As the young winger continues to develop, hopes across the country are growing that he could become the next transformative figure in Ghanaian football, perhaps even following in the footsteps of legendary playmaker Abedi Pele.
