Union Saint-Gilloise booked their place in the Belgian Cup final in emphatic fashion, producing a ruthless second-half display to brush aside Sporting Charleroi 4-1 in a high-octane semi-final clash.

The hosts set the tone almost instantly when Promise Akinpelu struck inside the opening minute, igniting the Stade Joseph Marien. Charleroi, however, refused to roll over and hit back straight away through Aurélien Scheidler to restore parity and briefly threaten an upset.

After the interval, Union SG emerged with renewed purpose and control. Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini announced his return to the scoresheet in style, calmly finishing off a slick, multi-pass move to put the Belgian champions back in front. The goal, his first of the campaign, proved to be the turning point as Union SG seized full command of the contest.

Charleroi’s resistance crumbled further when Yassine Titraoui saw red with just under 20 minutes left, leaving the visitors to chase shadows against a rampant Union side.

The numerical advantage told almost immediately, with Ross Sykes powering in a late header to stretch the lead before Raúl Foruckz wrapped up the rout in stoppage time.

With the victory, Union Saint-Gilloise keep their domestic double ambitions alive and now await the outcome of the other semi-final between Royal Antwerp and Anderlecht to learn their opponents in the showpiece final.
