Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup will gather serious momentum in March when the Black Stars head to Europe for a marquee international friendly against Austria.

The encounter has been pencilled in for Friday, March 27, 2026, with Vienna’s historic Ernst Happel Stadium set to stage the clash. Kick-off is scheduled for 17:00 GMT, offering Otto Addo’s side a stern examination against well-drilled European opposition.

The fixture forms part of Ghana’s broader preparation strategy as attention turns firmly towards the World Cup finals. Drawn into a demanding Group I, the Black Stars will come up against England, Croatia and Panama, a trio that promises little margin for error.

March’s international window is expected to play a key role in shaping Ghana’s tournament outlook, providing an opportunity to evaluate depth, refine tactical ideas and measure overall competitiveness ahead of the global showpiece.

Austria will also view the friendly as a vital tune-up. The hosts face a tough assignment of their own at the World Cup, having been placed in Group J alongside reigning champions Argentina, Algeria and Jordan.

The Vienna showdown will not be Ghana’s only major test in March. Just three days later, on Monday, March 30, 2026, the Black Stars will take on Germany in another elite-level friendly, underlining the ambition behind their pre-tournament schedule.

With back-to-back matches against top European sides, Ghana will be aiming to build rhythm, sharpen match fitness and gain tactical clarity as the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues.
