Bibiani GoldStars head coach Fritz Markus Schmid has showered praise on his players after their disciplined and courageous display against Asante Kotoko in a fiercely contested Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 clash at Dun’s Park.
The Miners stood firm to earn a hard-fought draw against the Porcupine Warriors, a side that dominated long spells of the encounter and repeatedly tested GoldStars’ defensive resolve, particularly after the break.
Asante Kotoko’s relentless pressure nearly paid off late in the game when skipper Samba O’Neil powered home a header in the 83rd minute from a Lord Amoah delivery, only for the goal to be controversially ruled out, one of the defining moments of the match.

Despite facing one of the league’s most experienced and technically polished teams, GoldStars matched Kotoko stride for stride, absorbing pressure and refusing to buckle under sustained attacks.
Reflecting on the encounter, Schmid acknowledged the quality of the opposition and commended his squad for their fighting spirit and tactical discipline.
“I have to give my players a lot of credit for their performance because we played a very strong side who had a solid possession game, they put us under a lot of pressure, especially in the second half, and we kept up, and we held against them. I praise the team for fighting against a clever and more experienced side,” the Swiss tactician said.
The result leaves Bibiani GoldStars on 33 points, seven adrift of the summit of the Ghana Premier League standings. Attention now shifts to their next assignment, as Schmid’s men prepare for a tricky away fixture against Berekum Chelsea, hoping to build on the resilience and confidence gained from standing toe-to-toe with one of Ghana football’s traditional heavyweights.
