Interim Management Committee (IMC) member of Asante Kotoko, Kwesi Appiah, is confident the Porcupine Warriors will show a marked improvement as the second half of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season gets underway.
Kotoko endured a demanding first round marked by inconsistency and transition, but still emerged as serious contenders. After 16 matches, the Kumasi-based giants sit second on the table with 30 points, having suffered only two defeats, an outcome that reflects resilience despite the challenges faced.
With the league resuming this weekend, Appiah, who is currently balancing his IMC role with his duties as head coach of Sudan, believes the foundation laid in the opening round will pay dividends going forward.
“I’m part of the IMC, and we thank God they’re also picking up. It won’t be easy, especially in the second round of the league, so I am hoping that we try to pick up,” he said to the press.
Reflecting on lessons from the previous campaign, Appiah pointed to squad integration as a recurring hurdle for the club.
“Last season, during the second round, some of the players had just come to the team and needed time, and that is one of the key problems we always have”, he stated.
He also acknowledged the pressure that often surrounds the club, urging patience as the team continues to gel.
“And sometimes, we don’t have patients, but I understand they’re now picking up slowly. I hope the second round they’re able to play and everyone who supports Kotoko back home gets happy,” he added.
In preparation for the decisive phase of the season, Kotoko have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfielder Prince Badu from Nations FC, a move expected to add depth and balance to the team.
The Reds head into the second round on the back of encouraging form, unbeaten in their last three league outings. They will kick off the second half of their campaign with an away fixture against Swedru All Blacks on Matchday 17 at the Swedru Stadium, as they look to maintain momentum and sustain their title challenge.
