Abdul Fatawu Issahaku sparked controversy over the weekend after being seen at a major music event in Ghana, despite missing national team duty during the November international window.
The Leicester City winger, who was not named in Ghana’s squad for the Kirin Cup matches against Japan and South Korea, even though he is fully fit, flew home and made a high-profile appearance at the Tidal Rave concert in Accra on Saturday night.
Issahaku arrived in style, pulling up in a striking sea-blue Ferrari flanked by personal security, instantly drawing attention from fans and onlookers. The sight of the 20-year-old enjoying nightlife back home while the Black Stars were training in Seoul didn’t sit well with many supporters, with some branding the gesture as disrespectful to the national team and its ongoing commitments.
The concert, headlined by Nigerian star Ayra Starr, also featured performances from some of Ghana’s biggest acts, including Black Sherif and Shatta Wale.
It remains unclear why Issahaku opted to return to Ghana during the break, but he is expected to rejoin Leicester City this week as preparations resume for the return of Championship football on Friday.
Despite the off-field storm, Issahaku has enjoyed an encouraging start to the season, contributing three goals and three assists in 15 league appearances for the Foxes.
