Brian Brobbey could hardly contain his joy on Saturday evening after finally marking his first goal for AFC Sunderland, delivering a dramatic late equaliser in a pulsating 2-2 Premier League showdown with Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.

The Dutch-born striker of Ghanaian heritage started the game on the bench but made a huge impact when introduced in the second half. With Sunderland chasing the match deep into added time, Brobbey reacted quickest to a knockdown in the box and swept home the leveller, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Reflecting on the moment in his post-match chat with Andy Sixsmith TV, the 22-year-old admitted the goal had been a long time coming.

“Oh I know about the motto here, ‘till the end’! Everybody always pushes till the end! Granit said to everyone in the last 10 mins that we need to keep pushing, and we could get something. It was a good header from Dan, and I was just in the right spot. So many emotions – I was waiting for this goal and I finally got it, so I’m so happy. Never heard anything like that noise in my career when I scored,” Brian Brobbey told Andy Sixsmith TV.

Now off the mark in England’s top flight, Brobbey heads into the November international break with a weight lifted and the belief that more goals are on the horizon.
