Coventry City reclaimed their rhythm in the Championship title race with a commanding 3-1 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday night, powered by Ghanaian forward Brandon Thomas-Asante’s tenth goal of the campaign.

After suffering their first defeat of the season to Wrexham last weekend, Frank Lampard’s men responded with conviction at the Coventry Building Society Arena. The visitors had drawn first blood in the 25th minute through Sam McCallum’s fine strike, briefly unsettling the league leaders.

But the Sky Blues roared back after the restart. Japanese winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto restored parity just four minutes into the second half, finishing off a sharp move orchestrated by Bobby Thomas. The defender then turned scorer himself, rising highest to head home from a corner and tilt the contest in Coventry’s favour on the hour mark.

As Sheffield United pressed for an equaliser late on, Thomas-Asante delivered the knockout blow in stoppage time, coolly converting from a Haji Wright assist to secure all three points and put Coventry’s title charge firmly back on track.

The goal, his tenth of the league season, not only reaffirmed the Ghanaian’s importance to Lampard’s side but also made him the most prolific Ghanaian player across Europe’s top divisions this term.
