Ghanaian goalkeeper Richmond Ayi has sealed a move to Ethiopian Premier League side Shire Endaselassie, opening an exciting new chapter in his football journey.

The former Hearts of Oak shot-stopper has signed a short-term deal with the northern Ethiopian outfit, affectionately known as Sehul Shire, with an option to extend beyond the 2025–26 campaign. The switch marks Ayi’s first foray into East African football, as he looks to rediscover his best form and inject experience into his new team’s ranks.

At 28 years old, Ayi brings a wealth of experience from Ghana’s top flight. He began his professional career with Techiman City FC before making a name for himself at the West African Football Academy (WAFA SC), where his reflexes and composure quickly turned heads. His steady rise earned him a transfer to Accra Hearts of Oak in December 2018, where he evolved into one of the Ghana Premier League’s most consistent goalkeepers.

Ayi’s time with the Phobians coincided with one of the club’s most successful modern eras. He was part of the historic 2020–21 squad that clinched both the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup, ending the club’s long wait for domestic dominance.

After nearly six years in Accra, Ayi made a switch to Dreams FC in August 2024, featuring prominently in both local competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup, where his experience between the sticks proved vital.

Now, with Shire Endaselassie, Ayi faces a fresh test in a new environment. The Ethiopian side, ambitious and eager to make their mark, will be banking on his leadership and shot-stopping prowess to help steer them toward a competitive campaign.
