Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed strong optimism that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will soon meet the standards required for CAF and FIFA certification.

The revered Kumasi arena is currently under renovation after it was declared unfit to host international fixtures by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a verdict that compelled Asante Kotoko to relocate their continental home games to Accra.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Buem MP revealed that significant upgrades are in progress and that the stadium’s clearance is only a matter of time.

“FIFA is concerned about the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, but massive improvements are currently underway. I believe the pitch will be approved after CAF conducts its inspection,” he assured.

“We have been given some areas to fix before we get the place approved, and I know that we will surely do that.”

According to Adams, renovation works are focused on addressing the specific issues identified by CAF inspectors, including sections related to player facilities, pitch quality, and safety standards.

At present, the Accra Sports Stadium remains Ghana’s only approved venue for hosting matches under CAF and FIFA supervision.

As a result, Asante Kotoko, who played their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary tie against Kwara United in Accra, will again adopt the same venue when they welcome Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco on Sunday, October 19, in the second round of the competition.
