Asante Kotoko’s hopes of returning to their revered Baba Yara Sports Stadium for continental action have hit a snag after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rejected the venue for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup showdown with Wydad Athletic Club.

Following a recent inspection of the Kumasi-based facility, CAF concluded that the stadium did not fully meet the necessary standards required to host matches at the continental level. The decision forces the Porcupine Warriors to shift their home fixture to the Accra Sports Stadium.

The first-leg clash against the Moroccan giants is now set to take place in the capital on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with kick-off at 3:00 p.m.

In an official statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed CAF’s ruling and voiced its displeasure at the outcome.

“Management regrettably announces that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined the approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Asante Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco,” the statement said.

This marks the second time in the competition that Kotoko will be forced to adopt the Accra Sports Stadium as their temporary home ground.

The club previously played there during the earlier round against Nigeria’s Kwara United, and will now return to the same venue as they aim to secure a vital first-leg advantage over the Moroccan powerhouse.
