Former Ghana Football Association spokesperson, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has urged calm over the mounting calls for Black Stars head coach Otto Addo to be shown the exit door, describing the clamour as unnecessary and ill-timed.
The 48-year-old tactician has been under fire in recent weeks despite steering Ghana to four points out of six in the latest round of World Cup qualifiers. The Black Stars were frustrated to a 1-1 stalemate against Chad before grinding out a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium during the September international break.

While Addo’s men still sit in a commanding position in Group I, the performances have triggered unease among supporters, media circles, and even political figures. Sports Minister Kofi Adams publicly voiced displeasure with the displays, while veteran lawmaker Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu openly questioned whether Addo has the credentials to take Ghana to the global stage should qualification be secured.
Yet Sannie Daara, who now serves as a Senior Media Officer with CAF, insists the clamour for Addo’s dismissal is premature and risks destabilising the campaign at a crucial stage.
“Calling for Otto Addo’s sack now is too hasty. We should wait until the Black Stars’ World Cup qualification is decided,” he said on Asempa FM.
Addo was handed a three-year contract in March 2024, with the option of a two-year extension. His reign has already seen disappointment, with Ghana missing out on a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Nevertheless, the German-born coach remains in charge as the Black Stars prepare for their decisive clashes against the Central African Republic and Comoros next month.
