Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Asoma has decided to remain at Helsingborgs IF after turning down an opportunity to join Finnish Veikkausliiga outfit Vaasan Palloseura.
The development was confirmed by Helsingborgs manager Stevie Grieve, who revealed that the midfielder personally declined the move, choosing instead to continue his journey with the Swedish side ahead of the upcoming Superettan campaign.
Grieve explained that the club always allows players to decide their own future whenever transfer interest arises.
“If a club wants to buy our player, we will take it to him, and then he can have the discussion. If he doesn’t want to leave, we respect that and he is still part of our squad,” the coach further indicated that Helsingborgs will not pressure any player to depart if they are committed to the project at the club.

Asoma was a regular feature for Helsingborgs during the 2024–25 season, making 28 appearances across competitions and playing an important role in the team’s midfield setup.
Born in Berekum, Ghana, Asoma moved to Belgium at a young age where he continued his football development.
Although he represented Belgium at youth level, the midfielder remains eligible to play for the Ghana national football team at senior international level.
