Lord Amoah, the deputy captain of Asante Kotoko, is expected to spend a lengthy period on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury during the club’s recent Ghana Premier League encounter.
The 22-year-old defender picked up the injury during Kotoko’s 2-0 away victory over Young Apostles FC in a Matchday 23 fixture of the Ghana Premier League. Amoah’s outing lasted only 19 minutes after he was forced off following a heavy challenge that left him unable to continue.
Subsequent medical examinations, including MRI scans, confirmed the extent of the damage. The dynamic full-back has been diagnosed with a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament as well as damage to the medial meniscus, a combination of injuries that typically requires surgical intervention and a prolonged recovery period.
Club sources indicate that Amoah is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days as he begins the road to rehabilitation.

The development represents a major setback for Kotoko, who will now have to cope without one of their most influential players. It is also a personal blow for the defender, who had been attracting attention for a potential call-up to the Ghana national football team ahead of upcoming international friendlies.
Given the seriousness of the injury, Amoah’s campaign is likely over. He was already absent when Kotoko returned to action over the weekend, playing out a 1-1 draw against Vision FC in their Matchday 24 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Amoah joined the Porcupine Warriors from Berekum Chelsea in the summer of 2024 and quickly cemented his place as a key figure in the team. Despite playing primarily as a defender, he has been one of the club’s standout performers this season, making 23 appearances across competitions and remarkably contributing nine goals.
