Black Stars: “Chris Hughton is a great guy,” says Tariq Lamptey

Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has expressed his appreciation for newly-appointed head coach Chris Hughton.

In an interview with Joy Sports, the 22-year-old shared that he knew Hughton before his appointment and was thrilled to be working with him as the gaffer.

“I knew Chris from before. He is a fantastic guy. His coaching career speaks for him and we are all excited to work under him.

“Chris is a great guy and you can see that on and off the pitch,” he stated.

My biggest Black Stars challenge is the huge expectations from Ghanaians – Chris Hughton

Lamptey has not been able to play due to injury concerns since Hughton took office; however, he is determined to make a full recovery so he can reclaim the right-back position with Alidu Seidu and Denis Odoi competing for the spot alongside him.

“I think it’s like anything in football. You have to be fit first.

“You have to make sure that your recovery is right – eating well, sleeping well, training hard – so that I’m back up to my smooth level,” commented Lamptey.

Ultimately, it will be up to Coach Hughton to decide who gets the starting job when Tariq has fully recovered.

Tariq Lamptey became a Ghana international prior to the 2022 Fifa World Cup. He enjoyed his international debut in a friendly against Brazil on September 23, 2022 and has so far been capped four times – two of which came at the Mundial in Qatar.
