King Faisal beat Legon Cities to push survival battle to final day

King Faisal defeated Legon Cities 3-1 on Saturday at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex to snap a six-game losing streak and boost their prospects of surviving the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The ‘Insha Allah’ boys controlled the match’s opening minutes, and Abdul Latif’s penalty kick goal broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute.

Centre-back Nii Gyashie Bortey accidentally clipped Faisal Benjamin Bature from behind, forcing referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe to whistle and gesture to the spot.

Abdul Latif scored from outside the area in the 68th minute to give his team their second goal.

To cut the lead and offer Legon Cities a chance to rally, Ebenezer Armegah scored in the 76th minute.

However, the Royals’ hopes were shattered 5 minutes later when Baba Yahaya scored to round up the win for King Faisal, 3-1.

Despite the win, King Faisal remain deep in the relegation battle, sitting second from the bottom of the 18-team league standings with 39 points from 33 games. Legon Cities are 11th with 43 points.
