GPL champions Medeama mount search for new head coach

2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) winners Medeama SC are planning to recruit a new head coach.

The Mauve and Yellows achieved their title triumph – a first – with Technical Director Evans Adotey who stepped in after the position was made vacant by the abrupt resignation of Umar Rabi.

Medeama will be Ghana’s sole representative in the 2023/24 Caf Champions League.

Only a few days after the GPL triumph, club president Moses Armah ‘Parker’ has made hints at the necessary arrangements, which they feel would go a long way toward increasing the team’s prospects of improving Ghanaian teams’ bad record in Caf interclub competitions.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Parker mentioned intentions to replace Adotey, who will ultimately take over as technical director owing to his breadth of experience.

Additionally, in order to ensure a seamless transition and consistency among the club’s technical staff, he said that the choice of the new head coach will be made based on Adotey’s recommendation.

“Evans Adotey is the club’s Technical Director and will be retained.

“We will make any decisions based on his recommendations because Caf requires that we appoint a Licensed A coach.

“If he recommends that we appoint an expatriate coach, we will do so because we need quality to help us achieve our goal in Africa,” Moses Armah ‘Parker’ told the Accra-based radio station.

Medeama SC last competed in a Caf interclub competition in 2016, exiting the group stage of the Confederation Cup after coming third.
