Dreams FC beat King Faisal to win FA Cup for the first time

Dreams FC have won the Ghana MTN FA Cup for the first time after defeating King Faisal 2-0 in the final of the 2022/23 season at Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday.

The ‘Still Believe’ boys scored the opening goal of the final after 19 minutes. Completing a brilliant build-up play, Abdul Aziz Issah got the icebreaker for his side.

For the majority of the first half, the game appeared to be heading in one direction, with Dreams creating more chances to extend their advantage.

Coach Karim Zito’s substitutions in the second half, however, produced rewards, as Sadiq Alhassan came off the bench and scored within three minutes of his entrance. In the 67th minute, the midfielder came in to replace Emmanuel Agyei.

What may be referred to as ‘The insurance’ goal came just five minutes after attacker Agyenim Boateng Mensah narrowly missed a chance set up by substitute Godfred Attuahene.

King Faisal had no reaction to falling behind, and Dreams went on to etch their name in history as one-time winners of the MTN FA Cup.

Dreams FC’s FA Cup victory qualifies them to represent Ghana in the 2023/24 Caf Confederation Cup.
