His impressive performances with 15 goals in the betPawa Ghana Premier League caught the eye of the former Newcastle United and Brighton manager.

Hughton commended Konkoni after his first training session with the senior national team, adding that he wasn’t surprised to see his ability given how engaging watching him live or on video is.

“I was fortunate to watch him live last weekend. I have been able to watch him on video.

“I thought he did well today [in training]. It wasn’t a surprise because he is a player I have enjoyed watching,” the Black Stars gaffer stated in a presser.

Hughton says Konkoni exhibits a maturity beyond his years.

“He is a young player, so I think he has a lot of development left. Speaking to him, I think he is quite a mature player for his age.”

Hafiz Konkoni may make his debut against Madagascar on Sunday, June 18 as Ghana works towards qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
