Arsenal permit Partey to pursue ‘Saudi money’ – reports

Ghana international Thomas Partey has reportedly been permitted by Arsenal to look into a transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

Rumours of the Gunners’ readiness to move on the Black Stars deputy captain this summer emerged over the weekend and now 90min is reporting there are chances he could join the train to Saudi Arabia.

Partey joined Arsenal in a £45 million deal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and appeared in 33 of 38 Premier League games this past 2022/23 season as the Gunners mounted a first title challenge in 15 years.

Despite their return to the Champions League and only three years after making him the fourth most expensive player in their history, the Gunners – who are seeking to improve their young squad – are open to letting 30-year-old Partey leave.

According to 90min, the attractiveness of the midfielder moving to Saudi Arabia permanently rather than staying in Europe on loan is that it frees up immediate wage bill space. Arsenal are also hoping to make a profit by selling him for more than the £45 million they spent to get him.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema have already chosen to continue their careers in the oil-rich country, where money is being poured into the league there.

Several players, including Ngolo Kante, Hakim Ziyech, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Ruben Neves, are on the verge of transfers. There was also interest in Lionel Messi, who chose to move to Miami FC in the United States.
