Bechem United star Hafiz Konkoni has been called up to the Ghana senior national squad to face Madagascar away in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying.
It is a first call-up for the 23-year-old striker, and it comes less than 24 hours before the Black Stars open camp in Accra in preparation for the trip to Antananarivo.
Konkoni featured in Bechem’s 1-0 defeat to Aduana FC in the final game of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Sunday.
The professional teacher finished the campaign with 15 goals in 26 appearances.
As a result of Konkoni’s inclusion in Chris Hughton’s squad, the coach now has 25 players at his disposal for the upcoming penultimate Group E qualifier. He is expected to join the Black Stars on Monday.
Madagascar will host Ghana at Stade Kianja Barea on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
