2023 U-23 Afcon: Egypt’s Ahmed Nagy Mosa named Ghana vs Congo referee

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has appointed Egyptian Mahmoud Ahmed Nagy Mosa as referee for Ghana’s opening match at the 2023 U-23 Africa U20 Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco.

The Black Meteors – who finished fourth in the 2019 edition after being edged on penalties by South Africa – are scheduled to kick-start their campaign for a ticket to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics against Congo on Sunday, June 25.

Ahmed Nagy Mosa will be helped on the lines by compatriot Sami Mohamed Abouzid Halhal (Assistant I) and Adel Abane from Algeria (Assistant II).

The Fourth Referee will be Gamouh Youcef, also from Algeria.

Issaka Adamou from Niger has been appointed the Match Commissioner.

The Ghana-Congo Group A fixture will take place at Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat with kickoff at 15:00 GMT.

The competition’s winner and the two runners-up will earn a spot to represent Africa in the men’s soccer competition at the Paris Olympics.
