Ghana get USA friendly for 2026 World Cup qualifying warmup

The Black Stars will use the game as a preparatory platform for their campaign in the 2026 Fifa World Cup African qualifiers which begin in November.

An international friendly between the senior national teams of Ghana and the United States has been scheduled for October 17, 2023.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Soccer Federation announced that the game against the Black Stars will be one of two high-profile friendly matches the Yanks will use during the international window in preparation for the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Nations League scheduled for the following month.

Ghana will also use the game as a preparatory platform for their campaign in the 2026 Fifa World Cup African qualifiers which begin in November.

The United States will first host Germany in Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday, October 14 and then three days later entertain the Black Stars of Ghana in what will be a first home game at the sparkling new GEODIS Park GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee. Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. ET (00:30 GMT).

In their history, the two countries have met four times, with each side winning twice with 2-1 scorelines. It is noteworthy that three of the four meetings have been held during World Cups, with Ghana winning both games in 2006 and 2010 and the USA winning the opening group game in Brazil in 2014.

The last meeting was on July 1, 2017 when the USA won 2-1 in a friendly in Hartford – the same venue as the upcoming Germany game. The Black Stars now have the opportunity to seek a first win on U.S. soil.
