Tamale City hold Asante Kotoko to 1-1 stalemate in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko failed to beat Tamale City at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in match-week 29 of the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupines have been inconsistent in their quest to defend the league title they won in 2022 and against City, they could not record a triumph.

Kotoko could only pick a point from the clash and the stalemate is their tenth of the league season.

Also it is the fifth draw at home from 14 matches.

For Tamale City, the result looked good in their quest to avoid relegation. The Northern Region side have picked 8 points in their travels, not bad for a newly-promoted team.

It was Kotoko who scored first and it looked like a lead ahead of half time but City changed the story.

Rocky Dwamena’s 36th minute opener was cancelled by Mohammed Yahaya in the 41st minute.

Both sides returned from the break and despite how well the hosts puffed for the lead again, they failed.

Infact, Kotoko struggled to open up their guests with glaring opportunities.

From the 60th to 80th minute, the two teams went at each other in search of the lead but the missing piece in all the action was the final pass.

And if not the final pass, the final accuracy.

As a result, few chances were created by both sides as Tamale City decided to sit deep in the closing stages and pick a point.

Kotoko’s next game is against Gold Stars in Kumasi and will be poised to pick a top-four spot.

For the 15th-placed Tamale City, they host King Faisal. A win for them pushes their guests deep into relegation battle.
