Salifu, Ntange strike late as Hearts of Oak overcomes King Faisal in Accra

Hearts of Oak beat King Faisal at the Accra Sports Stadium to get their results back on track in match-week 29.

After losing to Tamale City on Wednesday, the Phobians needed a comeback and they made it count against Faisal.

The victory is Hearts’ eighth at home in the 2022/23 league season. For Faisal, their fourth defeat in away games.

David Ocloo started Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah. The title-winning shotstopper has been on the sidelines for a while now.

King Faisal gaffer Ignatius Osei Fosu kept faith in Benjamin Bature as his centre forward and Baba Yahaya returned to the lineup.

The first half produced a goalless scoreline but Hearts looked the brightest of the two sides in attack.

After halftime, the Phobians tried to increase their attacking intensity and came close on some occasions.

Salifu Ibrahim replaced Gideon Asante while Albert Euonde came for Victor Aidoo.

The changes further improved the attacks from the Rainbow boys and they looked closer to the opener than Faisal.

But Faisal had their share of the moments.

They called Hearts goalie Attah into action in the 57th minute with two great saves, enough to keep his side focused for a lead.

The game’s first goal came in the 88th minute as Salifu Ibrahim scored after picking a pass from Albert Euonde in the 6-yard box.

Substitutes to the rescue!

Minutes later, Hearts found the second after beating Faisal’s highline as they pursued their hosts for the leveller

Linda Mtange! The Congolese calmly placed in Euonde’s saved strike in the 92nd minute.

Hearts now move to fourth awaiting other results in match-week 29. They travel to Samartex for thr next game.

Faisal are 15th and a win for Gold Stars places them 16th in the league log.
