King Faisal pip Accra Lions 1-0 for second straight win

King Faisal defeated Accra Lions 1-0 away on Saturday to register their second consecutive win since ex-midfielder Godwin Ablordey became head coach.

The hierarchy last weekend decided to mutually part ways with Jimmy Corblah who had taken over from Serbian trainer Bozovic Branko four games into the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL) campaign.

His assistant Godwin Ablordey was elevated to acting head coach. And he has already masterminded two straight wins – a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Karela United at home in midweek and today’s solitary goal win over high-flying Accra Lions on the road.

Second-window signing Benjamin Bature netted the all-important goal in the match-day 25 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The goal was scored in the 11th minute and the ‘Insha Allah’ boys held on for the three points while also condemning Lions to back-to-back league defeats.

With today’s victory, King Faisal climb into 12th position with 31 points and a game in hand – against Asante Kotoko. On the other hand, Accra Lions – on 35 points – risk losing the fifth spot by the end of the weekend’s games.

The man-of-the-match award was given to 16-year-old Accra Lions central midfielder Emmanuel Dzigba.
